    Picasso Museum (Museu Picasso)

The Museu Picasso first welcomed visitors in March 1963. At that time it occupied only one building, the Palacio de la Aguilar. The founder of the museum was a faithful friend of Picasso, Jaime Sabartes, who donated his personal collection of the artist's works to Barcelona.
That's why at first the museum was called the Sabartes Collection. Later, the museum was enriched by the robots kept by the artist's relatives and friends. In 1970, Picasso himself donated 920 paintings to the museum.
Now the museum presents the most extensive collection of paintings by Pablo Picasso. However, this collection is very uneven. Some stages of his work are covered in detail and some are not represented at all. Most of the early works of the genius artist, painted during his life in Spain (1890 - 1917) are collected in the museum.
