Column of Marcus Aurelius (Colonna di Marco Aurelio)

The column was built in the one hundred and eightieth year, after the death of the emperor. It was erected in honor of Marcus Aurelius' victories over the barbarians, which the emperor's army celebrated on the banks of the Danube. In the eighty years separating the construction of the columns, the artistic style has changed quite a bit - the war scenes on the Marcus Aurelius column are depicted much more simply and sparingly than on the Trajan column.

    Piazza della Repubblica

All of Rome is built on top of ruins that were once the most majestic buildings in the entire world. Piazza della Repubblica is no exception - the square was erected on the site of ancient buildings. Earlier, in the first millennium of our era, on the site of the square there were very popular among the Romans Thermae Diocletian - a complex of baths, including both cold and hot baths, gymnasiums, a library and gardens of extraordinary beauty. Unfortunately, these buildings lasted relatively briefly - two centuries - and were destroyed at the decline of the Western Roman Empire in the 500s.

    Villa Torlonia

Architectural and park ensemble created in the early 19th century. The main building of Villa Torlonia is a pompous structure in the style of classicism. Its facade is decorated with a large portico with columns, the rooms of the house are full of sculptures. In the surrounding park there are interesting buildings of smaller size: a theater, a greenhouse, memorial obelisks, a Moorish grotto. The House of Owls, a garden pavilion with many frescoes depicting these birds, has a whimsical shape. The outside of it is decorated with relief masonry, while the interior is decorated with paintings and majolica. The remains of Jewish catacombs dating back to the III-IV century have been found in the park.

    Piazza Mincio

In the center of the square there is the Frog Fountain, realized in 1924 according to a drawing by Gino Coppede. The stone bowl of the fountain is decorated with four figures, each holding a seashell where frogs sit, from which jets of water gush forth. On the bowl, set higher up, sit the other eight frogs. This is the epicenter of the residential quarter where the most beautiful streets converge - via Dora, via Tanaro, via Aterno - and around which palaces of different styles are gathered.

    Piazza della Trinità dei Monti

The church of Trinita dei Monti was built with the money of the French crown, donated by Ludwig XII. The construction of the church lasted from 1502 to 1585. By erecting the cloister, the French king wanted to commemorate the French victory in Naples. During Napoleon's occupation of Rome, the church was attacked and completely looted. At the beginning of the 19th century, the restoration of the church began. The façade of the church is in strict classical style designed by architect Carlo Maderna.

    Piazza Cola di Rienzo

Via Cola di Rienzo in Rome is not far from the Vatican and St. Peter's Basilica, next to the Tiber promenade. It stretches from Piazza Risorgimento to Piazza della Libertà. This street and the eponymous Piazza Cola di Rienzo are named after the famous Italian political figure of the XIV century, tribune Cola di Rienzo, who cared about the strengthening of Rome and the good of his people. Most of the buildings surrounding the square were erected in the first half of the 20th century and were subsequently completed and reconstructed.

    Ponte Sant'Angelo

Today, it is one of the oldest bridges in Rome. A key feature of this arched bridge, lined with marble slabs, are the grandiose sculptures of ten stone angels and two holy apostles (Peter and Paul), placed opposite each other along the entire length of the bridge. Guarding the bridge, Bernini conceived the angels holding in their hands symbols of passions, that is, they are a kind of personification of earthly passions. The majestic figures of angels, made in the Baroque style, which absorbed the unmistakable features of antiquity, were erected by the master during the reign of Pope Clement the 9th.
