Tour de Constance
Languedoc did not yet belong to France, when Louis IX of France bought a piece of land here with the intention of building his own Mediterranean port. This is how the town of Aigues-Mortes was born.
The Tower of Constance had only just been erected when the monarch set out on his crusade in 1248 with 1,500 ships and 35,000 men. During the next campaign, he died of the plague off the coast of Tunisia.
But the town continued to grow: until the XIV century the rectangle of fortress walls were decorated with 20 towers. But Eg-Mort did not reach its true heyday, the port began to shallow. The fortress became a grim prison.
Still, the view from the tower over the salt flats of the Camargue National Park and a walk along the city walls are worth a deviation from the itinerary and a visit to Eg Morth.

Arènes de Nîmes
Real magnets for tourists are magnificently preserved ancient buildings.
The arena was famous for its gladiatorial battles and had a capacity for 24,000 people. It is now used for bullfighting, and the amphitheatre has been covered with a retractable roof and hosts events throughout the year.

Pont du Gard
Despite having a spring, Zima needed water from other places. That is why the Romans built a 50-kilometer-long aqueduct to the city. Its most famous section is the Pode du Gare, or King's Bridge, a three-tiered aqueduct 49 meters long over the Gardon River, 19 km northeast of Nîmes.
