Volcanoes and Lakes

After a morning spent surrounded by nature at Yurt Sancy, head to the Puy de Sancy and park your car at the Puy de Sancy paid car park.

Take the cable car to the top of the Puy de Sancy. You can check the timetable and the prices on their official website.

After a dizzying journey by cable car (over 450 metres in 4 minutes), the ascent of the Puy de Sancy continues for about 20 minutes up wooden stairs. You’ll then find yourself at the highest point of the Massif Central, and also the highest volcano in mainland France. When the weather is good, it’s said that you can see one seventh of France from up there!

Take a walk on the volcano and head to this viewpoint to continue admiring the breathtaking view it offers.

Walk back to the cable car and make the most of the descent – relax and enjoy the view one last time.

Make a stop at Plage Murol and enjoy your lunch facing this unique mountain lake.
Lac Chambon is a volcanic dam lake, formed as a result of the eruption of the Tartaret volcano, located in the neighbouring commune of Murol.

After lunch, take a digestive walk along this beautiful beach and, if the weather permits, you can even take a dip in the water before continuing the journey!

Before returning to Clermont-Ferrand, make one last stop in the centre of the Chaîne des Puys, where you can admire the sight one final time. Enjoy this golden hour in the middle of nowhere – you should be alone for this view!
