Poupart Piquot
Open Details
We start the main day of our short excursion to Paris with invigorating coffee and delicious pastries. A few doors down from the hotel is Poupart Piquot Bakery: croissants, other pastries and, of course, macaroons, a pastry made of egg whites, powdered sugar, granulated sugar and ground almonds. It is said that this ancient French delicacy was invented in a monastery. True, Italians dispute this theory and say that macaroons appeared in France after Catherine de Medici became the wife of Henry II and brought with her the cooks who were the authors of the recipe. We'll probably never know the truth.
