Welcome to DC! You’ll explore some of the most iconic destinations in all of America today. Before you begin your journey through history, fuel up on fresh and local food at Eastern Market, a bustling marketplace that has served visitors since 1873. Walk through the merchant outposts for flowers, baked goods, delis, and seafood, and pick up little snacks that catch your grumbling tummy's eye.
Note: the market is closed on Mondays. If you’re visiting at this time, you can skip the market and get a headstart on sightseeing.

From Eastern Market, begin your walk over to Capitol Hill. You’ll pass the United States Botanic Garden and the Garfield Monument on your way over to the iconic home of the United States of America at the US Capitol Building. You can tour the building, but reservations need to be made in advance, and tours only run Monday–Friday. You can replace some of the day's tour around the National Mall with a visit inside the Capitol if you'd prefer. Whether viewing from the exterior or stepping inside this iconic monument, you'll be within reach of the discussions and decisions made each day affecting the American people.

Continue on your tour of the National Mall! The easiest way to get around is with the DC Circulator, which is the only transit option that will bring you around the National Mall. Conveniently, the Circulator stops at all the major attractions, and you can choose if you prefer to take it or if you'd like to walk in some parts, which is recommended to maximise your sightseeing. The Washington Monument will be the first stop along the DC Circulator, which can take you to all the monuments for the next five hours.
You can decide the top spots you want to see within the National Mall, but one stop you cannot miss is the Washington Monument. Built to honour George Washington, this 555-foot-tall, obelisk-shaped structure towers over the area and can be seen from many angles all throughout Washington, DC. If you can secure a ticket, you can take a minute-long ride up 50 stories to the top, where you can see for miles and observe the major landmarks nearby.
How to reserve a trip to the top (from recreation.gov): Order tickets online up to a month in advance of your visit. Inventory for the next available day (30 days out) becomes available at 10:00 a.m. each morning (e.g., on 7 May at 10:00 a.m., tickets will become available for visits on 6 June).

Make your way towards the Lincoln Memorial, another must-see stop on your trek through the National Mall. The iconic memorial honours Abraham Lincoln. Inspired by Greek temples, the massive marble columns overpower your landscape from every angle. The view of the memorial is meant to be seen from its grand view from far away and admired up close. You can also stand on the steps where Martin Luther King Jr. famously delivered his "I Have a Dream" speech. Spend some time at the Reflecting Pool admiring the iconic site.
There are typically food truck stations throughout the National Mall, especially by the major landmarks you are visiting, but there’s also a refreshments shop at the Lincoln Memorial that serves some food, snacks, and beverages that will fill you up until dinnertime.
The exterior of the memorial is open 24 hours.

Take the Connector back to the east end of the National Mall. You can then take the bus further back to pick your car up, or walk.

Head over to DC's Georgetown neighbourhood, where you’ll spend the evening and morning in comfort and style. Known for its quaint cobblestone streets and Federalist-style architecture, Georgetown feels straight out of a fairy tale. The area is also known for its tasteful fashion shops, waterfront views and park, and premium seafood restaurants.
Check into the Rosewood Hotel, a scenic hotel resting right on the canal. After checking in, head out to the street of Georgetown to muse through the charming cobblestone paths and make your way into one of DC's fine seafood establishments. Fiola Mare sits riverside and is inspired by the Italian seas. Eat Italian coastal cuisine, which changes seasonally to provide the freshest ingredients.
