The Alsace Wine Route and Some of the Most Beautiful Villages in France

Park your car here for a short walk through Thann.

A detour to Thann is one of the 100 most beautiful detours France has to offer. The town is surrounded by steep vineyards. Especially worth seeing are the streets around the Minster of Thann, the Collegiate Church of St Theobald. There are houses here that date back to the 16th century, as well as towers and fortifications from the 14th and 15th centuries.

Now you’ll pick up your car and continue along the southern Alsace Wine Route to Eguisheim near Colmar.

Park your car in front of the old town of Eguisheim and take a walk through the wine village.

Just a few kilometres south of Colmar lies the village of Eguisheim. With its historic old town, it’s one of the places worth seeing on the Alsace Wine Route. Eguisheim is one of the most beautiful villages in France, with its cobblestone streets and half-timbered houses. Stroll through the village and let the charm of the village take hold of you.

Pick up your car from the car park and continue to Kaysersberg on the Alsace Wine Route.

Take your time and enjoy the Menu du Terroir offered by master chef Olivier Nasti at his Winstub Du Chambard on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. He’s one of the best chefs in France, and his restaurant has two Michelin stars. Try Alsatian onion tart, house-style sauerkraut, or trout with matelote sauce. For dessert, ask for cheese from the Munster Valley. This is what the region in the Vosges is known for.

Pick up your car and continue along the Alsace Wine Route towards Riquewihr.

Leave your car in the car park and take a walk through Riquewihr.

Riquewihr is one of the most beautiful villages in France and awaits you with magnificent half-timbered houses. Stroll through the streets and soak up the charm of this wine village. Riquewihr decorates itself for its guests in summer and winter.

Get your car and continue along the Alsace Wine Route.

Park your car in this car park and walk up to the church in the vineyards of Hunawihr.

In the midst of vineyards lies the church of Saint-Jacques-le-Majeur in Hunawihr. It’s worth a visit mainly because of its location. Also worth seeing is the military cemetery that surrounds the church.
Opening Hours: Daily: 10:00 a.m. – 6:30 p.m.

Sainte-Hune Fountain is a pretty stop. From there you have another good view of the church in the vineyard before the journey continues along the Alsace Wine Route.

Park your car here for a short walk through Ribeauville.

Stroll along the Grand Rue through the centre of Ribeauville. This village is also one of the most beautiful villages in France and enchants its visitors with its narrow streets and well-kept half-timbered houses.

Pick up your car and continue north.

Indulge yourself at La Fourchette des Ducs Restaurant in Obernai. It’s one of the Grandes Tables du Monde and reinterprets classic Alsatian dishes. Lobster, foie gras, caviar, royal crab, and truffles are on the menu.
