A Day in Santa's Village

Start your day with a trip to the Provincial Museum of Lapland. Learn about the area's history through the ages and about its inhabitants. This will be an excellent introduction to Suomi culture and will bring you up to date on the lay of the land.

Santa Claus Village is perhaps one of the most popular destinations in the region, and it shouldn't be missed. The grounds are free to wander around and are extra magical in winter.

Situated at the back of the park are Santa's reindeer. You can feed them for a fee. The experience allows you to enter the pen, stroke, and feed the reindeer. It’s a unique experience where you learn about reindeer herding and their importance in Suomi culture.
Opening Hours: Reindeer visits occur between 1 June and 15 October (or until there is permanent snow). During these times, it’s open daily between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.

After feeding the reindeer, visit the Arctic Circle Information Centre to learn more about the region. Here you can ask questions, learn more about the local area, and book activities and excursions. On your way to the centre, stop by the Arctic Circle line and take a photo.

Head into Santa's Salmon Place, a traditional Suomi teepee serving freshly grilled salmon. Watch your salmon grill on the open fireplace in front of you while you warm yourself up. Another must-try is the Finnish grilling cheese served with cloudberry jam, a delicacy in the region.

Now that you’ve warmed up by the fire, it’s time to visit the real Santa! Santa often moves around the village depending on the time of year, so check on the website or enjoy an afternoon searching for him in the village. He’s usually found in his chamber in the gift shop at this location. Since 1992, Santa has been inviting people from across the world to visit him for free, and he’s there every day of the year. You can have your photo taken with Santa by some of his helpful elves. This is an additional fee; the children can speak to Santa about their Christmas wishes.

After visiting Santa and getting into the Christmas spirit, walk to Santa's post office; here, you can see the magic happen, with elves sorting and organising the post. This is the best place to buy a postcard or gifts to send, as there is seating for you to take a moment and write to a loved one.
