A Journey Through a Winter Wonderland

To ease into the day, you’ll start with a walk in the Arctic Circle. This specific hiking route is fantastic for observing wildlife and feeling immersed in nature. You can choose how long you walk; if you have young children, it can easily be a shorter visit but, if you want to wander through the forests, there’s a set trail.

After a long drive, it’s time to make a pit stop and have a good break to stretch your legs. Park at the restaurant where you’ll be eating lunch, but first go on a little stroll along the river to help build up an appetite.

During the winter months, sometimes parts of the river freeze over, which is a spectacular sight to see. But, even during the summer months, this area is home to a lot of wildlife, and you can often see lots of birds flying over the glistening waters of the rushing river.

Head into this quirky roadside café where you can eat hearty home-cooked meals in the gift shop. This is certainly an experience, and the food is highly rated. Some specialties of the region are reindeer, as it’s a staple meat for the Suomi people.

Head down to the Arctic Husky Farm, where you can pet the huskies and go for a husky safari. This is a must-do activity in the Arctic Circle, and this particular farm has hundreds of huskies, including the Siberian Husky. Please make sure to book in advance.

For the second night, you’ll be staying in an igloo again. These igloos are further north than your previous night's sleep, which means your chances of seeing the Northern Lights are greater, so keep checking the sky! Use this pit stop to warm up, freshen up, and get ready for the ultimate dining experience.

For dinner you can go to Huttuhippu, which is a small, cosy restaurant. This is the best place to try reindeer meat, as it’s homegrown and fresh. The food served here is locally grown or foraged and will give you an authentic, organic taste of the region.

Head back to your igloo and keep an eye open for the Northern Lights. They are best seen around midnight, when the skies are at their darkest. Even if you don't manage to see the Northern Lights, you’ll still be able to stargaze on clear nights.
