The Road to Aix-en-Provence

It’s time to visit Aix-en-Provence, another city that has inspired painters and artists. Go to Forum des Cardeurs Square for a walk. The special thing about this square is the buildings that surround it. Traditional Provençal architecture with the colours reflecting the sunlight.

This historic pavilion is surrounded by a beautiful French formal garden and it’s a perfect example of classical architecture in Provence. Two statues, Baroque atlantes, were sculpted to frame the entrance. The interior has a Baroque character.

This is the most vibrant square in Aix-en-Provence. Classic pastel colours and unparalleled charm: you’ll feel the magic of the city here. In this square you can see the Town Hall, the clock tower, and the grain market; in the centre there’s also a beautiful fountain.

Twice a week this square is busy with a local produce market and it’s usually full of people having some drinks on the surrounding terraces. It’s perfect for a break if you need to have a drink while you enjoy the Provence architecture!

This square is surrounded by an old palace that gives its name to the square. It has a Baroque style and has a fountain in the centre from 1912 that was designed by local art students.

Located in the most important street in Aix-en-Provence, this fountain was built in 1691. Its name came from the nine points that emit water. The lower part was used as a watering hole during the transhumance of sheep from Arles to the Alps and back.
