    Moorish Barracks (港務局大樓)

Macau was one of the links in the chain of the Portuguese empire that stretched from Indian Goa to Malacca and Macau. In the late 1800s, Portugal sent a garrison of Indian police to the territory, stationed in purpose-built barracks. In contrast to the usual image of gloomy gray barracks, the architecture of the barracks in Macau was inspired by the Moorish style, incorporating some Portuguese and Indian features. The Moorish influence is best seen in the horseshoe-shaped arches that support the wide verandas and the turreted roof. The building now houses the naval administration.
