    Abbey of St. Hildegard

    The Abbey of St Hildegard is an extraordinary monastery. Unlike most monasteries in the region, it was only built in the 20th century. In 1904, the first Benedictine nuns moved in. Since 2002, the abbey has been part of the Upper Middle Rhine Valley UNESCO World Heritage Site. The monastery is surrounded by vineyards that rise above Rüdesheim. There, the nuns cultivate their own vineyards and grow mainly Riesling and Pinot Noir.
    Enjoy the wonderful view of the Rhine Valley from the monastery and take a short walk through the vineyard. Take a look at the church, grandly decorated in neo-Romanesque style.
    Afterwards, you can taste and buy the monastery wines in the monastery shop.

    This former Cistercian monastery in Eberbach is now a museum and winery. It served as a film set for the filming of "The Name of the Rose" with Sean Connery in the leading role of William of Baskerville. The latter went on a murder hunt behind medieval monastery walls.
    You can visit the abbey museum, the cloister, the basilica, the monks' refectory, the dormitory, the lay brothers' dining room, the monastery alley, the chapter house, the cabinet cellar, and the Romanesque cellar vaults on your own.
    In the monastery shop, you’ll also find the Eberbach Monastery’s vinotheque. There you can taste and buy the monastery wines.
