Get Up Close and Personal With Florida’s Everglades

The Florida Everglades is one of the largest national parks in the United States. While it's best to explore this park via boat, Highway 41 offers wonderful views straight through the middle of the park as you cross over to the Gulf side of the state, where it's said to have the most beautiful beaches in the country.

You can't leave Miami without visiting Monty’s Raw Bar. Grab an early lunch before going to the Everglades National Park, and walk around this iconic location before grabbing a seat outside and looking out towards Biscayne Bay. This restaurant might look familiar to you, as it’s been a backdrop for several TV series, such as Miami Vice, and even featured in movies and music videos.
They don’t take reservations but, since you’re going in for an early lunch, seating shouldn’t be a problem. Make sure you try the conch fritters as an appetiser and their award-winning key lime pie for dessert. Check out their menu for a list of items they feature and you’ll also be able to check out the kid's menu in advance.

    Otter Cave Hammock Trail

    Otter Cave Hammock Trail

    Open Details
On the map, it will look like you’re driving into the middle of nothing, but you're about to head into one of the largest national parks in the United States. Driving down Highway 41 and taking the loop road scenic route is a perfect introduction to the Everglades. The beautiful cypress trees are swaying with the light breeze, and you’ll spot dozens of different wildlife such as blue herons, turtles, egrets, and, of course, the Florida alligator.
You’ll find several trails in the area, but the Otter Cave Hammock Trail is one of the safer and better marked trails in the area. You have the option of going on a guided tour or renting a bike to follow the trail that will lead you to an observation tower for a panoramic view of the park.
Another great option to spot the Florida alligator is doing an airboat tour. There are several to choose from once you enter the national park, or in Everglades City – consider two hours for this activity.

    United States Postal Service

    United States Postal Service

    Open Details
A fun little pit stop that’s unique since it’s the smallest United States Post Office. In the early ’50s, this shed was originally used for irrigation pipes that served a tomato farm close by. One night, a general store that used to house the United States Post Office burned the town and this shed was still standing, so they improvised and turned it into the smallest Post Office in the country. Drop off a postcard that you purchased from previous stops, or buy a pre-stamped postcard there and send yourself a souvenir that will be waiting for you back home.
If the post office is closed when you arrive, you can still drop off your stamped postcards and take pictures. This quick stop will be worth it.
    Opening Hours: Monday – Friday: 8:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m., 12:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. Saturday: 10:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. Sunday and holidays: Closed
